A Note from the Founder of Love Me KnotI have been a collector of vintage jewelery and handbags for many years. One of my most favorite pieces is a necklace from the 1920's. It is a rare find and simply has two ornate pearls on the end of a single chain. I wanted more but they were impossible to find. I never imagined that my love for jewelry would create a new divine purpose. Upon hearing the news of yet another teen suicide, I had to go outside and collect my thoughts. This was the fourth suicide among my teens' classmates. My children had already been so affected. I looked up to the sky for answers. The winds whispered that "children must learn to love themselves, celebrate life and value their oneness." "How?' I asked. The answer came as clear as the sky and a new mission came to life. A Love Me Knot is a new spin on an old design and is symbolic of a caring friendship with one's self. It is so easy to become our own worse enemy. If we truly learn to be our own best friend, think of the mountains we could climb. I went to a trademark attorney, told him of my vision and he ran a search. There was not a necklace called a Love Me Knot and his words were "get busy." The designing process began and after there were many samples, I shared my vision with Robin Harris. Robin Harris is the mother of Kaitlin Harris. Robin and her family are survivors of suicide. They are the real heroes. Upon meeting with Robin, I expressed my compassion and dream that through the creation of Love Me Knots, we could fund a foundation that increases the awareness and prevention of teen suicide. I will never forget that day. With tearful eyes she replied, "I thought everyone had forgotten about Kaitlin." The initial introduction of Love Me Knots to friends and family was a huge success. Proceeds from sales helped initiate the set up of the Kaitlin Harris Foundation. Know that Love Me Knots were inspired in memory of all teens that have tradgically ended their lives. The foundation was set up to help save lives. Through the support of friends and family, dreams are coming true. 10% of every Love Me Knot sold goes to the awareness and prevention of teen suicide through the Kaitlin Harris Foundation. Mary B.
